Description
‘Wanderer’
Painting by John Hancox
‘Wanderer’ (PL11) was built in Peel in 1821 and was part of the local fishing fleet. In May 1915 it played a vital role when RMS Lusitania (a British ocean liner en route from New York to Liverpool) was torpedoed by a German U-boat. As the first vessel on the scene, Wanderer and her crew of 7 rescued over 160 people.
